How You Can Help Bring a Citizens’ Grand Jury Petition to Your County

• Stay Tuned for Updates: Be sure to stay engaged and check back regularly for updates. Staying informed is crucial as we work together to advocate for accountability and protect Oklahoma’s children.

• Use Your Voice: Share your thoughts on the importance of this petition. Your voice is a powerful tool in raising awareness and rallying community support to improve our child protection system.

• Learn From the Tulsa County, Oklahoma County, and Grady County Petitions: We encourage communities across Oklahoma to observe these petition processes. They provide valuable examples for other counties to draft their own petitions for grand jury investigations. While some counties had limited time to prepare, others can use this opportunity to create strong, thorough filings.

• Prepare for Signature Collection:

-We need volunteers to gather the required 5,000 signatures by 12/23/2024 from registered voters in Tulsa County.

-We need volunteers to gather the required 5,000 signatures by 1/12/2025 from registered voters in Oklahoma County.

Important Requirements:

• The plaintiff(s) must be registered voters in Oklahoma.

• All petition signers must be registered voters in the county where the petition is filed.

Note on Responsibilities:

The court charges a filing fee for each grand jury petition. Each county is responsible for:

• Covering their own filing fees.

• Drafting and printing court filings.

• If the petition is approved, building a team to organize resources, such as computers, and managing the signature collection process to meet the required number of signatures needed to impanel a grand jury and investigate the allegations in the petition.

Get Involved

• Spread the Word: Share this message widely. Raising awareness about the challenges facing Oklahoma’s children is the first step toward change. Taking action is what will drive accountability. Together, we can protect our children and demand justice. Let’s unite and make a difference!
